I’m not normally one for subscription box services. I tend to be too picky to benefit from Beauty Boxes like BirchBox or MyGlam, and lifestyle boxes like PopSugar are on the pricy side for this gal. But when it comes to my furry companion, I can’t resist an opportunity to spoil him.
BarkBox is by far the most popular pet subscription box service, for $29 a month you get fun toys and healthy treats delivered right to your door. We’ve received some pretty fantastic items. Lucky for me, Gatsby is the least picky dog I know* and loves every item we’ve received. He definitely has his favourites though, so I thought I’d share them with you all!
1. Louisiana Crab with Alligator Jerky from Think!Dog Natural
These treats are the perfect size for my small pup, and the strong smell absolutely makes him go wild. I love that they’re all natural, wheat-free and made in the USA.
2. PeaPod plush toy from P.L.A.Y
This toy is one of Gatsby’s favourites. It’s made of super soft material and has a great squeaker in it that Gatsby could spend hours with. It’s machine-washable, filled with eco-friendly material, and best of all, comes with a healthy homemade dog treat recipe on the tag!
3. Red Tree Frog plush toy from Pet Qwerks
Gatsby loves grabbing onto the various limbs of this little frog. It also has a squeaker which has helped cement its place in his favourite toy rotation.
4. Indigo Triple Chews Bones from PetSafe
Gatsby cannot get enough of these nutritious and tooth-cleaning chews. Every time I pull one out he practically vibrates with anticipation. I think he loves the size and shape (easy for him to hold between his paws) as well as the chewy outside with a soft tasty filling. Again, this is a wonderful natural, grain-free treat that is made in the USA, we’ll definitely be purchasing these once our supply runs out.
5. Blissful Banana Chips from Healthy Dogma
This was probably the most surprising item we received from BarkBox. It’s quite simply dehydrated banana chips with a bit of coconut oil. Gatsby actually loved these! It was fun to be able to give him something that was so simple and yet, delicious. I’m planning on trying some other brands of banana chips to see if he likes those as much as the Healthy Dogma ones. I also loved that these treats smelled great and were mess free – no dusty crumbs left in my pockets!
* It’s worth noting that if you do have a picky dog, the folks at BarkBox are willing to guarantee all their items and are happy to make things right for your pup. We received some peanut butter treats once, which Gatsby can’t have (as my boyfriend is allergic) and BarkBox was wonderfully supportive. They provided us with a credit to their online store so that we could pick out a different treat.
